GALLERY BOB SMIT ROTTERDAM

These pictures I took the last time I visited the Gallery of Bob Smit, which is one of the few galleries in Rotterdam I like.Again I was surprised to see this lively and funny art of Birgit Verwer, a young artist that just graduated and I already love her work.I was walking around and it made me feel like being in a gallery in New York or someplace else, it felt so un-Dutch.Wow, it makes me longer for making new art myself..can't wait actually.
Just today there's a new exhibition already that is so interesting,so when you're in town and feel a little bored, just pop in this Gallery, i's worth it! really nice people and no need to feel uncomfortable by walking in, it's on the Eendrachtsplein 16. (www.bobsmit.com)

Jacques Tati

This French master of humoristic movies is tonight on CANVAS with his movie of 1949, 'Jour de Fête', one of his masterpieces.You should see it to have some inspiration if you're sitting on the couch and playing bored..I believe he is brilliant, just like the other french filmmaker, Claude Chabrol, who has recently died.Chabrol was a filmmaker of the so called 'Nouvelle vague', which were tired of all this 'clean'films with classic romantic heroes, together with Francois Truffaut, Eric Rohmer, Agnès Varda, Jean Eustache and Jean Luc Godard they wanted to show the real life, especially the life of their own generation.Chabrol is one of my biggest inspiration but also Tati is one of my favourites.Well, judge for youself and see it.

Last night I visited The like for their gig at Rotown, really LIKE these girls,
not only goodlooking but also very Lolita-powered.
Especially the bass-girl, she is soooooo gorgeous!
so I took her picture as you see, watch her eyes, amazing!
She has Armenian blood, that is the secret.

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG

I can't wait to see this movie, always been a great fan of Charlotte Gainsbourg but ever since 'The Antichrist'of director Lars von Trier she has proven that she's a great actress.I don't know what makes her so special, it's probably her famous mother Jane Birkin and father Serge Gainsbourg which gave her all the talent and good looks.
For me she is the icon of 2010.

FOLDABLE VINTAGE BAG

When I am in Rotterdam I'm really fond about strolling down the flea-market.Abroad and even Amsterdam is also great but the Rotterdam-market is not so bad, sometimes you wil find some little treasures, just like this bag.It's a rare one, probably around the 50ies, maybe even older.For now i'm keeping it just like some other vintage items I find now and then.And when I'm tyred of it I might sell it on my webshop.But this one I like too much myself now...

Brussels, you have to find your way but you can find some good places there, although it's a very strange city,quite different kind of people, turn one street and it's fashionable and nice, turn the other and it's horrible...At the Rue Antoine Dansaert it's nice shopping, for the best lunch and nicest people, check the Café Soleil.

25 YEARS INEZ&VINOODH

Thursday the 24th of june I'm going to the expo of Inez van Lamsweerde& Vinoodh Matadin,
who are now working together for 25 years and done such a marvellous job.
For me a huge inspiration,especially Inez, which I admire personally for such a long time,
working with all those big stars but still standing with both feet on the ground,the right attitude if you ask me.
(Don't believe the hype!)

RA / ANTWERP

This is something I discovered accidentially on the Kloosterstraat,(one of the best places to stay where you can find loads of nice shops with antique gadgets, vintage objects like 'Elan Vintage),at first I thought it was a gallery, but walking inside a new world was opening up to me, a sort of 'Alice in Wonderland', so great this is:everything is in one place so you can spent ages here.
You can see the latest new designers that aren't famous yet but are about to.Also the well-known Henrik Vibskov is there but that wasn't so special because there is so many new and exciting stuff to see besides all clothes;accessoires, shoes, hats, from cool to glamour and from rock to chic.Cool and gentle staff is hanging around that aren't to much there, very subtile but if you want to know more about this place willing to tell you the whole story.
And if you are ever getting tired of listening music upstairs, trying some nice shoes, talking to this cute guys and want to chill a little,go downstairs again and lay down in a huge wooden bed or another silent corner with loads of the best fashion and art-magazines and have a delicious lunch, sure you won't forget to visit this one next time..o, there's even a little vintage-corner as well!
Off you go, you lazy fashion-victims, and find some new inspiration:

ANTWERP/ MOMU

Because I was extremely annoyed last time that I stayed in Rotterdam during Queensday I decided to escape this time and went to Antwerp, which wasn't a very bad idea.
First thing I did is visit the MOMU because of a marvellous expo: 'ZWART'.

Madonna Naked Oldskool

I really love these pictures of Madonna naked, her first shoot for Playboy as a rising star.I bought it today on the market for 2 euros only!Of course later on she tried to stop this photographer Lee Friedlander of publishing but it was too late..If she had known this by that age that she was going to be world-famous she would never have been posing 'unlike a virgin'for almost nothing, because that's what she did, she was still doing dance-classes and posed just to earn some money.
And that for the Playboy of 9 september 1985: it's my B-Day, couldn't think of a better present!
